Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp makes centre-back decision amid Domagoj Vida links
LIVERPOOL will not be signing a centre-back before the closure of the summer window and have no interest in Domagoj Vida, say the Liverpool Echo.
Jurgen Klopp pushes Liverpool players in training session
The Croatian has been consistently linked to Anfield after featuring alongside Reds defender Dejan Lovren to lead their country to the World Cup final.
It has recently been claimed that Liverpool have submitted a £19.5million bid for Vida to Turkish outfit Besiktas.
But the Liverpool Echo have quashed such suggestions and say that Jurgen Klopp has no plans to sign a centre half.
That’s despite Joel Matip having to return to Merseyside from Liverpool’s United States pre-season tour squad due to injury.
The Cameroonian - who missed much of last season - picked up a muscle issue 22 minutes into Liverpool’s defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday and has had to fly home to undergo medical treatment.
That leaves Matip facing two weeks out, leaving him a possible fitness doubt for Liverpool’s opening Premier League match against West Ham United on August 12.
And while Lovren is also a doubt to be involved against the Hammers because he will only report back to Liverpool six days before then, Klopp does not intend to sign another centre-back.
The Echo even say that the Champions League finalists are ‘baffled’ by speculation linking them with a move for Vida.
As well as Matip and Lovren, Klopp has Virgil Van Dijk, Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez as options in the middle of the back-four.
Liverpool have made four summer signings so far, recruiting Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker at a combined cost of over £170m.
