The Owls travel to Villa Park today (3pm) to face Steve Bruce’s improving side, who climbed to fifth in the Championship table following Wednesday night’s 2-0 win against Preston North End.
“We have maximum respect for probably the most strong opponent of the competition but we will go there to win,” Carvalhal said.
“We are competitive and we like this kind of challenge. We go into every game trying to fight for the three points.
“We understand it will probably be the most difficult game of the season.”
Villa’s squad is packed full of experience and Championship know-how, but Carvalhal believes his side can leave with all three points.
“All the people will agree that Villa are probably the best team and players in the competition,” Carvalhal added.
