LIVERPOOL must not trust Jurgen Klopp to choose his own defensive recruits in the January transfer window.

That is according to ESPN pundit and legendary Liverpool right-back Steve Nicol.
Nicol has been critical of Klopp’s transfer business, or lack of it, in the past and was at it again yesterday.
Liverpool failed to bring in a new centre-back in the summer, despite showing interest in Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk throughout the close season.
The Reds’ back four has since taken plenty of flak, showcasing the need for new recruits.
How could anybody rationally turn round and say 'I trust Klopp to go and buy a defender’?
Nicol admits Liverpool will have to pay premium prices in January but says Klopp should not be in charge of who is brought in.
“The problem I have is Liverpool having to go and buy a back four, they’re going to have to pay over the odds because it’s January,” he said.
“No (you don’t trust Jurgen Klopp with £150million).
“How could anybody rationally turn round and say 'I trust Klopp to go and buy a defender’?

“Since he’s come to the club, what two-and-a-half years?
“They’re not any better than they were when he started.
“The Liverpool board are going to have to look at this and decide whether they bring somebody in, and a goalie, to have somebody who can spot a defender.
"He clearly can’t.”
