Liverpool news: Reds appeal Sadio Mane ban, hearing tomorrow - Paul Joyce
LIVERPOOL have appealed against Sadio Mane’s three-game ban following his collision with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.
Liverpool appeal Sadio Mane red card
Mane was shown a straight red card after accidentally catching Ederson in the face with a high boot during Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
Ederson had raced out of his area to head clear a high bouncing ball when he was knocked to the ground.
He was carried off on a stretcher after receiving treatment on the field for around eight minutes.
Mane faces a three-man ban but The Times journalist Paul Joyce claims Liverpool have appealed to have it reduce to one or two games.
Liverpool to appeal length of Sadio Mane’s ban
Joyce tweeted earlier today: “Lvpl has the option to appeal 3-match ban for Mane, citing ‘excessive punishment,’ in hope it is downgraded to 1 or 2. Decision by 5pm.”
And Joyce has now followed it up, posting: “Liverpool to appeal length of Sadio Mane’s ban. Club feels three matches excessive. Hearing tomorrow.”
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was far from pleased by referee Jon Moss’ decision to show Mane a straight red card.
"(The foot) was not that high," Klopp said after the heavy defeat. "The goalie came more in [Mane’s] direction. In my opinion it was not a red card."
While Mane has since taken to social media to apologise to Ederson.
"I hope and wish Ederson a quick recovery," he posted on his official Facebook page.
"I am so sorry he was hurt during our accidental collision on the pitch and am sorry for him that he could not complete the match because of it. I pray he heals fast and is back playing very soon!"
