But the Italy international ended speculation over his future by putting pen to paper on a new five-year contract at Juventus in December.
However, Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claim Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte are now ready to go back in for the 29-year-old after he was involved in a bust-up with manager Massimiliano Allegri at the weekend.

Bonucci appeared to argue with the Juventus boss during the 4-1 victory over Palermo and he was subsequently fined for his actions.
He has also been dropped for tonight's Champions League clash with Porto (7.45pm).
This has cast doubt over his future at the club and Chelsea and Manchester City are ready to battle it out once again for his services.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte could renew his interest in Bonucci
The Blues were apparently lining up a January bid for Bonucci and their position in the Premier League table could convince him to link up with former boss Conte at Stamford Bridge.
But Bonucci has admitted that he was keen to work with Guardiola and could now be tempted to fulfil this ambition.
Bonucci is apparently valued at around £60million and is contracted to Juventus until June 2021.
