RONALD KOEMAN has urged James McCarthy to pull out of the Republic of Ireland’s squad for the World Cup qualifier against Austria next week.

McCarthy, 25, was named in a provisional 35-man squad by Martin O’Neill for the match in Vienna on November 12.
But the Everton manager is furious after claiming his latest hamstring injury, sustained in training, was a direct result of him being “overloaded” during the last international break.
“The player is not fit and to have a call up he has to be fit,” said Koeman. “The same thing happened last time, so my advice to James is to stay here and get fit.

“The player has learned from last time when he was overloaded and got another injury. First be fit, train with your club then you are ready for your national team. If he is not he will struggle again.”
O’Neill re-ignited the club versus county row on Wednesday when accusing Koeman of “bleating” about the player’s injury troubles, claiming international duty was not to blame for his current thigh strain.
