EVERTON will be without James McCarthy for several weeks after the Ireland international tore his hamstring in training.

McCarthy, 25, has played just four games for the Toffees all season amid worries over his fitness.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman hit out at Ireland for playing the midfielder twice in four days earlier this month.
“Now we have to handle a player who is massively overloaded,” Koeman said.

“I would like to have more commitment from the player of Everton because we pay the player but he was in a very difficult situation.
“It is ridiculous that he has surgery, five to six weeks out, three training sessions, plays 90 minutes and then, after three days, he plays another 80 minutes. I don’t do this to my players at Everton because you get injuries again.
And Koeman’s worst fears have been realised, with the Glaswegian set to be for a sustained period following a fresh injury picked up in training.

McCarthy was a late substitute in Everton’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City nine days ago but missed the 2-1 defeat to Burnley on Saturday.
Everton are in need of a boost after going five games without a win.
They have scored just three goals over that period, having started the campaign unbeaten in their first six outings.
