Confirmed: Sam Allardyce appointed England manager on a two-year deal
SAM ALLARDYCE has been confirmed as the new England manager.
Sam Allardyce has been appointed as England's new manager
The 61-year-old has signed a contract with the FA that will run until the 2018 World Cup.
The FA were expected to announce his appointment on Thursday but were held up by Sunderland's demands for compensation.
Sunderland allowed the FA to discuss terms with their manager, but asked for a swift decision to allow them to prepare for the new season.
They have now come to an agreement and the former West Ham and Newcastle boss will now be in charge of England's first World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on 4 September.
He will be unveiled as England's new manager on Monday.

Allardyce beat competition from Steve Bruce, who resigned as Hull boss today, Jurgen Klinsmann and Eddie Howe.
Arsene Wenger is also understood to have turned down the opportunity.
Allardyce first managed in England back in 1994 with Blackpool before moving to Notts County.
In 1999 he began an eight-year stint as Bolton boss, taking the club into the Premier League in 2001.
He left Bolton for Newcastle but lasted less than a season at St James' Park before heading to Blackburn, West Ham and last October Sunderland.

Martin Glenn stated: “Sam Allardyce is the right man for the England job. His excellent managerial credentials, including his ability to realise the potential of players and teams, develop a strong team ethos and embrace modern methods that enhance performance, made him the outstanding choice.
“That was underlined when we sat down to talk and we could not help but be energised by his personal perspective on England’s future and how it complemented the extensive work that we are looking to build on at St. George’s Park.
"Dan Ashworth, David Gill and I have carried out a thorough process in the last three weeks and ultimately we could not look beyond Sam as the ideal candidate.”
Sunderland are now expected to appoint David Moyes as his replacement, and the club said: "Sunderland AFC confirms the departure of Sam Allardyce, who takes up the position of England manager with immediate effect.
"The focus of everyone at Sunderland AFC now is on moving forward quickly and decisively, with the appointment of the club’s new manager to be confirmed at the earliest opportunity."
