The Dutchman revealed he visited Southampton boss and fellow countryman Ronald Koeman recently and has been inspired to make a sensational return to the league he lit up as a player.
Stam spent just over three seasons at Old Trafford and is regarded as one of the best defenders they have ever had.
Now a coach at Ajax reserves, the 43-year-old is currently working towards his UEFA license and it appears English clubs are already beginning to take notice.

"Coming back to England and seeing Ronald at Southampton has really opened my heart again," Stam told the Sunday Mirror.
"It was wonderful to be back in England – all my fantastic memories came flooding back to me. Football in England is booming.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world and the facilities for coaches and managers are fantastic.
"As soon as I get the opportunity to work in England, I will go for it.
"There has been some interest already, but that's all I can say. Of course, I still have to prove myself at the top level."
