Steve McClaren told Jose Mourinho to stay clear from Gini Wijnaldum
Chelsea boss Mourinho has admitted that Newcastle’s £14.5million summer capture from PSV Eindhoven would fit the bill for the Premier League champions.
But Wijnaldum, 24, was always in McClaren’s sights after the Holland midfielder “killed’’ his FC Twente side during the new Toon boss’s time in Holland.
He has been joined on Tyneside by Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, 20, and DR Congo defender Chancel Mbemba, 21, both buys from Anderlecht. Mitrovic cost £13m and comes with a fiery reputation.
But McClaren rejects comparisons with Liverpool misfit Mario Balotelli. He said: “He’s never skulked around the training ground, he’s always smiling.”
