Sir Alex Ferguson backs 'formidable' Louis van Gaal as the right choice for Man Utd
SIR ALEX FERGUSON has praised 'formidable' Louis Van Gaal and given the new Manchester United boss his backing.
The comments come at the same time as Ferguson suggested that becoming his successor at Old Trafford was too big of a job for David Moyes.
But Ferguson is more upbeat about Van Gaal's chances of success, citing his absolute dedication to football.
Writing in the new edition of My Autobiography, extracts of which were published on Tuesday, Ferguson said: "Louis is what I would call a managers' coach.
"He's one of those committed ultra-professionals. If I had to choose one word for him it would be "formidable".

Football is his life. Wherever he has managed, every footballer will have learned from him. He was a good choice.

Ferguson also believes that the appointment of Giggs as Van Gaal's assistant will prove to be a wise choice.
Giggs was appointed caretaker manager after Moyes was sacked last season but is now continuing his education in management under Van Gaal.
Ferguson hailed the appointment as "a terrific decision. Louis could help Giggs learn about this business; Ryan could help Louis in understanding the inner workings of United."
