Championship Round-up: Millwall beat Leeds as Derby and Sheffield Wednesday bag wins
LEEDS UNITED manager Dave Hockaday endured a bitter first taste to life as a Championship manager as goals from Mark Beevers and Shaun Williams earned Millwall a 2-0 result at the Den.
Beevers reacted first to a missed header in the Leeds box just seven minutes in to sweep in a cool finish off a short corner, the away side's defence slow to react.
Leeds saw efforts from Matt Smith and Dom Poleon sail wide, while Noel Hunt's scrambled shot was doggedly blocked off the line by Alan Dunne.
But a clumsy challenge from Lewis Cook upended Lee Gregory minutes from time, handing Shaun Williams the duty of securing all three points for the Lions.
Championship promotion favourites Derby County edged a close encounter with Rotherham 1-0 at the iPro Stadium, Jeff Hendrick blasting home a Cyrus Christie assist just eight minutes from time.
Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Watford all secured opening-day home victories and clean sheets to boot, while Sheffield Wednesday bagged a 1-0 result at Sami Hyypia's Brighton.
Huddersfield Town suffered the ignominy of finishing the day bottom of the Championship after a 4-0 home defeat to Bournemouth and there were draws for Brentford and Wigan against Charlton and Reading respectively.
