Kenwyne Jones does the trick for Stoke
KENWYNE JONES rapped out a message to Stoke manager Mark Hughes by firing a hat-trick to see off plucky Walsall.
Trinidad & Tobago striker Jones has slipped down the pecking order at the Britannia Stadium but staked his claim for a place against West Ham on Saturday by spearheading a 3-1 win.
Jones struck twice midway through the first half, first shooting home after Sam Mantom gave the ball away. Nine minutes later Jones forced in Andy Wilkinson’s cross.
Ashley Hemmings pulled one back for League One Walsall, tapping in Mantom’s 57th-minute cross but Jones settled any Stoke nerves when he beat the offside trap and slotted past Richard O’Donnell.
Cardiff won 2-0 at Accrington but manager Malky Mackay will wait nervously for news on record signing Andreas Cornelius’ injury.
The 21-year-old Danish forward, a £7.5 million buy from Copenhagen, went over on his ankle following an innocuous challenge from Tom Aldred just before half-time and left the field on a stretcher.
Nicky Maynard put Cardiff ahead after 61 minutes and Rudy Gestede doubled the lead 90 seconds later.
