Manchester United target James Rodriguez set to sign for Monaco
MONACO have beaten Manchester United to the signing of exciting Colombian winger James Rodriguez.
Manchester United had been tracking the 21-year-old for some time, with a summer bid for Rodriguez heavily expected.
However, it appears that Monaco have trumped United and new manager David Moyes for his services, with a combined £60 million bid for Rodriquez and Joao Moutinho accepted by Porto.
According to reports on the continent, the Porto duo are set for talks with Monaco after owner Dmitry Rybolovlev moved swiftly to agree a deal with the Portuguese club.
Atletico Madrid were hopeful of outmuscling United and the rest of the field for Rodriguez, while Tottenham and Chelsea had been mooted as potential suitors.
However the former Banfield star recently suggested he was in no rush to move on from his current club, saying: "There are offers from other clubs but if I stay at FC Porto another year I'll be satisfied because it's a winning club."
