Chelsea to suffer disappointment in James Rodriguez chase
CHELSEA look set to lose out on FC Porto transfer target James Rodriguez in January.
Rodriguez had also been on Manchester United’s radar, as he is widely believed to be one of the brightest prospects in Europe.
The Colombian is one of Porto’s coveted players and has been in impressive form this season.
But Porto chairman Pinto da Costa isn’t prepared to accept an offer for any of his players this January, let alone Rodriguez.
He told Portuguese paper A Bola: “When the time comes to contact with me will know that not seeing.
“I will not let anyone leave. If the FC Porto is a title shot and is in the knockout round of the Champions League, why would I sell a player?”
Chelsea have a midfield oozing with talent with the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Juan Mata at their disposal.
However, following their recent woes, Rodriguez could provide the Blues with an extra dimension and cutting edge to their play.
But da Costa added: “Now, it is clear that players who can not play out, but the 16 that normally are summoned not leave nobody but the termination clause.”
Rodriguez has netted eight goals in 17 appearances for Porto this season.
