Manchester United have reached an agreement with Joshua Zirkzee's representatives, and the Bologna striker is ready to join the club this summer, according to reports. The Red Devils are edging closer to the first signing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS' reign over football operations in one of three priority positions.

United reportedly plan to recruit a new centre-back, central midfielder and striker ahead of Erik ten Hag's third season in charge.

And they look set to imminently seal their chosen candidate to fill the latter position once Zirkzee concludes his involvement at Euro 2024.

According to Corriere di Bologna, Zirkzee is ready to join United after engaging in direct contact with Ten Hag over a summer switch.

United are claimed to have reached an agreement with the 23-year-old's agent, Kia Joorabchian, about the finances of the deal, including an agent fee and salary.

And Bologna are reportedly keen for a quick resolution as they don't intend to waste time in acquiring his replacement.

Zirkzee would cost United £34million, the value of his release clause that was activated on July 1 and increased the likelihood of his departure from the Serie A club.

Bologna director Giovanni Sartori recently went one step further when he confirmed that the Netherlands international was almost certain to leave this summer.

"Joshua Zirkzee has release clause into his contract and I believe he's 99 per cent gonna leave the club," Sartori admitted.

United may have hoped to conclude a deal for Zirkzee earlier in the transfer window before he became a late addition to Ronald Koeman's Euro 2024 squad.

The Schiedam-born goalscorer was an unused substitute in all three of the Netherlands' Group D games - a 2-1 win against Poland, a 0-0 draw with France and a 3-2 defeat to Austria.

He is behind former United stars Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst in Koeman's pecking order despite his impressive campaign for Bologna.

Zirkzee scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 37 appearances as Thiago Motta guided the club to Champions League qualification.

Starting his career at Bayern Munich, the 6ft 4in frontman netted four times in 17 senior games before moving to Parma and Anderlecht on loan.

He failed to score in four appearances for Parma but exploded for Anderlecht in the 2021/22 season, registering 18 goals and 13 assists in 47 outings.

Zirkzee's development has continued at Bologna, and he could now be set to join forces with Rasmus Hojlund at Old Trafford.
