Leicester City chiefs are said to be annoyed at Enzo Maresca after the Italian was confirmed as Chelsea’s new head coach. Maresca led the Foxes to the Championship title during his only season in charge at the King Power Stadium and left the club to become Mauricio Pochettino’s successor at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca, who spent the 2022/23 campaign as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City, enjoyed a formidable season in the Leicester dugout as he oversaw 31 Championship victories.

But he was unwilling to stick with the east Midlands outfit for their first season back in the Premier League.

According to The Telegraph, Leicester are disappointed that Maresca has decided to move on less than 12 months after taking charge at the King Power Stadium and feel he has jumped ship at the first opportunity. And senior officials are annoyed that he appeared to openly court the Chelsea job.

Maresca did voice his concerns over Leicester’s financial position towards the end of the season, with the club facing a points deduction in the Premier League.

But the 44-year-old had informed the Foxes board he would be happy to remain at the club this summer. And his exit has provided the club with turbulence they didn’t expect so soon.

Meanwhile, the report claims that some players in the Leicester dressing room will be unmoved by Maresca’s departure, although there will also be inevitable disappointment.

Leicester are now set to commence their search for a new manager, with a club statement on Monday stating: “Given the promising foundations established during his single season in charge, the club is disappointed that Enzo has decided at this stage that he no longer wants to be part of our vision.

“However, with Enzo’s decision made and the board’s terms for his departure met, we wish him well in his future endeavours.

“He leaves with the appreciation of everyone at the club for his work in helping us to achieve an immediate return to the Premier League during the 2023/24 season.

“Staff members Willy Caballero, Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javier Molina Caballero and Roberto Vitiello will also be leaving the club.”

And after his move to west London was confirmed, Maresca said: “To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity. I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”
