Man Utd 'drop huge clue' about Erik ten Hag future as INEOS review begins
Manchester United co-owners INEOS are conducting their review of Erik ten Hag's second season.
Manchester United have reportedly informed representatives of potential Erik ten Hag replacements that the Dutchman could yet stay beyond the summer. Ten Hag has left INEOS with an almighty dilemma by lifting the FA Cup on Saturday, his second major trophy in as many seasons at Old Trafford.
United did a number on bitter rivals Manchester City in a rematch of last year's final, with academy graduates Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scoring in a shock 2-1 win.
It salvaged something from a disastrous second year in charge, which involved the club's worst-ever Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
A report on Friday claimed that United had decided to sack Ten Hag regardless of the outcome of the FA Cup final, in which his side were the overwhelming underdogs.
However, INEOS don't yet appear to have made a definitive decision as they commence a planned review of the 2023/24 campaign this week.
According to the Manchester Evening News, no decision or action will be taken until the review is complete, despite talks with potential replacements.
United are said to have assessed their options and met candidates for discussions in recent weeks as they prepared for a possible change.
Ten Hag has one of the three years on his contract remaining at Old Trafford, and the club have the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

The report adds that United are considering handing the 54-year-old the final year of his current deal after picking up a second piece of silverware in 16 months.
It's claimed that the Red Devils have notified the camps of those contacted as possible successors that he could remain in charge.
However, there has been an expectation from certain corners outside the club that Ten Hag will be sent his marching order due to his failure to qualify for the Champions League.
United didn't just miss out on a top-four spot, but they failed to qualify for European competition altogether with an eighth-place finish - the club's lowest in 34 years.
The M16 giants also suffered a record 14 defeats in the Premier League and encountered 45 separate cases of a player missing a game through injury.
But Saturday's FA Cup triumph secured Europa League qualification, demoting Chelsea to the Conference League and dumping Newcastle United out of Europe altogether.
Despite Ten Hag's shortcomings in the Premier League, he is the first United manager to lift major trophies in back-to-back seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011.
That has left his future completely up in the air, and it won't become clear until INEOS' review is complete.
