5 players who rejected Arsenal transfer as Zlatan Ibrahimovic details Arsene Wenger snub
Arsenal and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head to sign Wolves star Pedro Neto in the January transfer window, but the Reds may have an advantage in the race as they look to find a successor for their talisman Mohamed Salah. The Portuguese forward has been one of the most impressive Premier League players so far this season and has clearly attracted the attention of some of the country’s biggest clubs.
Neto has been viewed as the perfect alternative to Saka - and someone who is versatile enough to fill in at other positions. However, that positive impression has also seemingly been made at Anfield as Liverpool search for a successor to Salah after knocking back an initial pursuit from Saudi Arabia in the summer.
Despite Jurgen Klopp boasting an array of firepower from the likes of Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, none of the quartet are specialist right-wingers and Salah’s potential exit could force the Reds into the transfer market - where they appear to have identified Neto as a serious option.

The issue for Arsenal is that Liverpool’s need for Neto would trump theirs if Salah does leave, as the Reds would likely be more prepared to match Wolves’ valuation of the 23-year-old if they see him as a Salah replacement, as opposed to a Saka rotation option at the Emirates. While Neto himself may prefer to play under Klopp if he is promised a bigger role than in north London.
Liverpool will hope to hold onto Salah and potentially boost Arsenal’s hopes of landing Neto, especially after five goals and four assists in eight league games.

Though Saudi are expected to come back and make another move for the Egyptian to join his former Liverpool team-mates in the Pro League such as Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino.
“Mo (Salah) is welcome at any time, but no one is pressured or forced to come,” Saudi Pro League director of football Michael Emenalo told German outlet TZ.
“If anyone wants to come here and there is an opportunity to work with the transferring club in a very respectful and professional manner, we would be very happy to have them. But Mo is a personal favourite of mine.”
