Erik ten Hag has welcomed three new additions to his squad this summer, but the Manchester United boss is demanding further signings in what remains of the transfer window. The Red Devils have splashed out £179million already, and recouping some of those funds is possible over the coming weeks through player sales.
United are targeting three further additions, with a defensive-minded midfielder the priority at Old Trafford. Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has been highlighted as the top target in that department, with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia also a consideration - though he appears Liverpool-bound.
Signing a goalkeeper to play second fiddle to new signing Andre Onana is also on the ‘to-do’ list for Ten Hag, with a young central defender also viewed as an important acquisition.
In contrast, Harry Maguire, Dean Henderson and Scott McTominay are among the numerous players linked with leaving the club this summer. Express Sport will keep you up to date with all the latest United transfer news…
Manchester United midfielder Fred has agreed terms with Fenerbahce and is set to have a medical with the Turkish club, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
His impending departure means new striker Rasmus Hojlund will wear the No 17 shirt this season.
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has claimed Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag never wanted to sign Harry Kane this summer. Kane had been linked with a move to Old Trafford but now appears to be on his way to Bayern Munich after Tottenham accepted a deal that could be worth as much as £100million for the ace.
“Erik ten Hag never wanted Harry Kane, I can promise you that,” Parker told Spilxperten. “He is just a goalscorer in name and [Rasmus] Hojlund offers a lot more than Harry Kane, that's for sure.
“He wants to be a part of the team instead of just seeing his name on the scoreboard. Hojlund is quick, strong and yes, he is an unfinished product but I truly believe Man United have given their fans the gift of the year by signing him instead of Harry Kane.”
Manchester United are ready to pay Harry Maguire a £6m golden goodbye payment to finalise his transfer to West Ham. The two clubs have agreed a £30million fee for the England centre-back but Maguire’s wages will drop from £190,000 to £120,000 a week.
The Old Trafford club will throw in the payoff to help get the £80m signing off their books for the start of the season.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag’s patience with Jadon Sancho playing as a winger has ‘snapped’, according to the Manchester Evening News. It is claimed that the Dutchman has been using Sancho as a striker in pre-season because he is fed up with his performances out wide.
Sancho joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund for £73million two years ago but hasn't lived up to expectations at Old Trafford after contributing just 12 goals and six assists in 79 appearances.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sell goalkeeper Matej Kovar to Bayer Leverkusen on a permanent basis, according to Kicker. The fee will be £7.8million.
Kovar, who failed to make a first-team appearance for United but spent time on loan with Swindon and Burton during his time at Old Trafford, will undergo the first part of his medical today.
Manchester United will not replace Harry Maguire with Jonny Evans, according to the Manchester Evening News. The Northern Ireland centre-back re-joined the club on a short-term deal last month but will not step into the former skipper's shoes if Maguire completes a move away from the club.
Evans, who spent nine years in the United first-team during his first spell at Old Trafford, featured in friendlies against Wrexham and Athletic Bilbao but was rusty and seemingly didn't impress United staff. And it appears United do not view the 35-year-old to be at the level they require from a Maguire replacement.
Mason Greenwood has not been given a shirt number at Manchester United ahead of the new Premier League season. The 21-year-old is still waiting to discover what the future holds for him at Old Trafford, with an official announcement expected to be made in due course.
Greenwood's profile still appears on the United website but he has not been included on their list of provisional squad numbers, which was released today. However, no player has been given the No 11 shirt worn by Greenwood prior to his suspension, which suggests that an imminent return to the squad is not out of the question.
Manchester United’s reported £30million move for Sofyan Amrabat relies on the Red Devils offloading at least one midfielder, according to the Manchester Evening News. Scott McTominay seems the likeliest star to leave, with West Ham supposedly in talks over a permanent switch.
The report also claims that while United’s interest in Amrabat is real, it has been slightly overstated by the Italian media.
David de Gea could be set for a blockbuster move to Real Madrid after leaving Manchester United as a free agent in June.
The Spaniard was cast aside at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag bringing in Andre Onana to take his place between the sticks.
But De Gea could have the last laugh.
With Los Blancos goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing his ACL in training, many have theorised that De Gea could be set for a move to the Bernabeu.
It's claimed that Real are working to make a quick decision on whether to recruit externally or promote from within.

Fenerbahce have submitted a £13million bid for Manchester United midfielder Fred, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian has been deemed surplus to requirements by Erik ten Hag, with at least one more midfielder expected to arrive at Old Trafford before next month's transfer deadline.
The bid is currently being considered by the Red Devils amid ongoing negotiations, with the Turkish giants attempting to wrap up the deal as quickly as possible.
Former Premier League and England striker Peter Crouch is keen to see Harry Kane's club future resolved quickly.
Bayern Munich have reportedly reached an agreement with Tottenham over a transfer fee, although the final decision is down to the player.
Manchester United have been backed by many to make a late transfer swoop for the 30-year-old, although they may be too late.
"It’d be great to see Kane stick around White Hart Lane and push on for the all-time goal scorer record but it all comes down to the ambitions of the player and if the new manager can convince him to stay," Crouch told Paddy Power.
"I’d imagine Harry is keen to get settled, wherever that may be, and get the focus back on football – these rumours and talks can be draining for players."

Fulham have revived their interest in Man Utd midfielder Fred, having seen a bid rejected for the Brazilian last month.
The Daily Mail claim that Galatasaray and Saudi clubs have also kept tabs on Fred's situation as Erik ten Hag looks to offload fringe players and raise funds.
The Red Devils value the midfielder at £20million, although no interested parties are believed to have come close to that figure as yet.
Former Man Utd striker Alan Smith has told his old club to sign Harry Kane as well as Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
Hojlund recently completed a £72million switch from Atalanta, but he will miss the first few weeks of the season through injury.
Erik ten Hag showed interested in Kane earlier this summer, but United pulled out of the race due to the costs associated with nabbing the England captain from a rival team.
"I think Man Utd should move for Kane despite already signing Hojlund because he’s only 20, he’s a young lad. He’d be able to learn from Kane," Smith told Gambling Zone.
"If you look at how well he’s done, I feel Kane is turning into Teddy Sheringham. A little different to him but similar in the way Spurs was his club but he went to Man Utd, so I feel it would be a shame if we lost him from the Premier League."
Dimitar Berbatov has predicted Manchester United to win the Premier League this season with Arsenal coming above Manchester City in second place.
Berbatov told Betfair: "The competition for the top four is the reason why the Premier League is so great to watch. Teams like Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton and Tottenham can compete for it. Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea will be in the top four.
"If Manchester United don't make the top four, then it's a terrible season. I think Arsenal will get the top four too, they need to push for the title and not settle for second place as they did last season. I'm not including Liverpool, Tottenham or Newcastle."
Berbatove predicts: Man United, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal.
Manchester United are pushing forward with their move for Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat this summer as they press ahead with selling off their fringe players.
According to transfer insider Alfredo Pedulla, United must first offload players to raise the funds needed to sign Amrabat.
It's claimed that United are a 'couple of sales' away from raising the necessary funds to lodge a bid for the midfielder.
It's suggested that United will need up to £50million to cover the overall cost of signing Amrabat. An agreement is already said to be in place on personal terms, but now it's a case of United selling their fringe players to 'advance' their move for the Moroccan.
Manchester United remain in talks with Real Sociedad over the loan departure of Donny van de Beek but the two clubs still have several issues to iron out.
The Dutchman has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and is set to depart on loan again, with the LaLiga side offering a way out.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations are still ongoing with discussions about the loan fee, how to cover the player's salary and whether a buy option should be included.
He could be the next midfielder out of the door with Scott McTominay a target for West Ham and Fred linked to Galatasaray.
Neville hails Maguire with transfer exit rubbished
Gary Neville has hailed Harry Maguire as a 'bloody good' defender and thinks he would snub a move to West Ham.
The 30-year-old could head to join the Hammers after the two clubs agreed a £30m fee, but Neville cast doubt on the centre-back going to the London Stadium his summer.
“I don’t think Harry will go there, to be honest," Neville said on The Overlap.
“But if they were to get those two players [Maguire and Scott McTominay], not saying they will replace Declan Rice, but in terms of strength, personality and performance levels.
"I know people will mock what’s happening with Harry, at the moment. But he is a bloody good defender and, for West Ham, he would be a fantastic signing."
Manchester United academy graduate Teden Mengi is set to seal a loan move to French side Amiens.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Ligue 2 outfit have registered their interest in acquiring the defender in a temporary move, with talks set to take place over a loan switch.
Mengi made his debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020 after appearing in the Europa League.
But the 21-year-old has struggled to kick on and may relish the chance for first-team football this season.
Zion Suzuku has claimed he snubbed a move to Manchester United once it became clear Andre Onana would be their first-choice goalkeeper.
The Japanese starlet, 20, was a target for the Red Devils and it had even been suggested a £5m fee was agreed with his club Urawa Red Diamonds. But Suzuki ended up signing for Sint-Truiden in Belgium, explaining his decision not to go to Manchester.
"I decided to transfer this time as a step up in aiming to be the best in the world. It's true that there was an offer from Manchester United," Suzuki told GOAL's Japan edition.
"As a football player and as a person, if I hadn't thought about anything, of course, I would like to go to Manchester United, but among them, I really want to spend time thinking about what kind of future awaits me. After much thought, I made this decision.
"Manchester United have acquired [Andre] Onana. It's important for me to participate in matches, and I think it is also important to play on the world stage. I want to make the most of what I have learned here and do my best."
Manchester United could miss out on Sofyan Amrabat after reports in Spain emerged that the midfielder is keen to play for another manager other than Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman is keen to reunite with Amrabat, having worked with him at FC Utrecht six years ago.
And United are now expected to launch an official bid to Fiorentina to mull over. Juventus are also keen on the Morocco international.
But Catalan outlet Sport claim Amrabat would rather play under Diego Simeone, currently in charge of Atletico Madrid, than Ten Hag and that could be enough to scupper any potential deal.
Manchester United are reportedly in ‘concrete talks’ to sign Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard.
Sky Sports Germany report that Erik ten Hag is pushing to sign the France international and has views his versatility as an attribute – given that he can be deployed in right-back and centre-back.
All parties are said to be keen to strike a verbal agreement as soon as possible, with Pavard making it clear earlier this summer that he would like to leave Bayern this summer.

Ex-Manchester United star Louis Saha believes that supporters will see the very best from Jadon Sancho next season thanks to the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund.
The Denmark international has arrived from Atalanta in a deal worth £72million, with the higher powers at Old Trafford granting Erik ten Hag his main transfer wish.
Speaking about who will benefit from the move, Saha told Betfred: “I believe Sancho will also benefit from the addition of Rasmus Højlund because Jadon’s a creator. However, Jadon has shown that he’s capable of doing a good job in the false nine role and he provides this team with a different option ahead of the new season.
“I do believe that Jadon overthinks things a bit too much sometimes, but I believe he just needs to be more confident in himself and his abilities and he needs to do everything he can to make sure he can get on the ball in the final third.”
Manchester United have reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace Harry Maguire, with a defensive acquisition now a priority.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have already held talks with Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and he is among their considerations, as well as Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard has also been shortlisted as a potential target and the France international is keen to make the move to Old Trafford this summer, having also attracted interest from Manchester City.
United highlight Spurs target as Maguire replacement
With Harry Maguire set to depart, the focus at Manchester United has quickly turned to replacing the central defender.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are keen to bring in another centre-back once the move is finalised and Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba is among their considerations.
Tottenham have also been linked with the 24-year-old this summer, with his contract expiring next summer catching the attention of numerous sides.
According to The Athletic, West Ham’s £30million bid for the defender has now been accepted.
Maguire was previously reluctant to join West Ham this summer and had insisted that he wanted to stay and fight for his place in Erik ten Hag’s starting eleven.
However, the Hammers appear to have convinced the 30-year-old of their project as personal terms are no longer expected to be an issue. Gareth Southgate is said to have been in contact with Maguire and indicated to him that failing to play regularly for United will impact his place in England’s international squad.
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has reportedly not joined Nottingham Forest yet due to an injury.
The 26-year-old tore his hamstring whilst on loan at the club in January which required surgery. However, it is a thigh injury that is holding up transfer talks, reports The Sun.
Forest are keen to sign the England international, despite the imminent arrival of Matt Turner from Arsenal, but their ‘strenuous medical’ could aggravate the issue and cause further damage.

Besiktas have launched a move for Manchester United defender Eric Bailly.
The Turkish giants are hoping to land the centre-back by the end of the week after jumping ahead of Al Nassr in the race for the Ivorian's signature.
Manchester United are pushing the player towards the Old Trafford exit door and there has been strong interest from Saudi Arabia. They are yet to agree a deal with any club, however.
Besiktas are also set to wrap up the signing of free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain following his release from Liverpool. The all-action midfielder is due to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Istanbul.
The Sun report that the academy graduate has stepped up his training in hope of returning to football, with the United squad and Erik ten Hag open to his return.
A Sun source said: “Mason is working harder than ever on the training pitch. He’s desperate to return to the side as soon as possible and wants to put the last 18 months behind him.
"Talks about his future are in the final phase and the players and the manager are behind him. The only thing that remains to be decided is whether he returns to first-team action or goes out on a season-long loan.”
