LGBTQ+ activist concerned by potential Qatari takeover of Man Utd
Manchester United takeover and transfer news is coming thick and fast as the summer rolls on. Sheikh Jassim remains in the spotlight amid his determination to buy the club. And Mason Greenwood is being snapped out and about more frequently, having kept a low profile over the past 18 months.
Sheikh Jassim is eager to buy Manchester United, even if Sir Jim Ratcliffe insists he remains in the race.
And the Qatari billionaire is hopeful of landing a marquee name if he manages to seize power at Old Trafford.
As for Greenwood, the United striker hasn’t played for the club in 18 months.
And his future remains up in the air, with the club announcing they were conducting an internal investigation into the England international back in February.
Express Sport now brings you all the latest takeover and transfer news from the club throughout the day, so read on below for fresh updates.
After playing on the left side of a three-man midfield, Mason Mount told Erik ten Hag where he best fits in at Man Utd.
"I really like the role I played today," he said. "Being able to drop in deep and get the ball to start the play from a bit deeper, but also having that freedom to get forward and get in the box, try and make the runs in from behind, and help the press from the front.
"I really enjoy that position, being able to do both sides, and also try to start off the press. I nearly had that chance just starting off the press and going from the front as well.
"I thought it worked really well. We’ve had a tough week but great to have that 45 minutes in the tank."
Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi has refused to shut the door on Andre Onana leaving the San Siro for Man Utd this summer.
“He’s currently an Inter player who will be in the squad, then we know that the transfer market is unpredictable. There are 50 days left until the end of the market, we know that there will still be a lot of change, from now to the end we know that there is hope,” said Inzaghi.
Erik ten Hag has explained in more detail why he was so keen to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea.
"I'm sure he will contribute to the success of United because he is a quality player," Ten Hag told MUTV.
"His vision is to play the offensive [midfield role]. But also he wants to be multi-functional, he wants to be complete.
"When you're playing in midfield, you have to attack, but you also you have to defend. I'm sure he will bring dynamism into our game and that was one of our analysis conclusions we made after last season. We need [to be] more dynamic in the midfield department."
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking to The Football Terrace, United are monitoring the situation of Sofyat Amrabat.
"We are hearing a lot of rumours aren't we about Manchester United and Amrabat, and I think it's fair to say that they're monitoring that situation,” he said.
He added: "So, it means that the hierarchy at Manchester United are very aware of both the player and the terms of the deal, but we also have to make it clear not a top target at the moment.
“So, it will come down to budget, but it will also come down to chemistry and timing.”
Gabriel Agbonlahor also feels Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood is valued at around £80million.
“I think for the owners as well, he’s an asset, he’s probably an £80million asset,” he told talkSPORT.
“A very good player, talented, 21, what are they saying about it? Do they want to sell their asset?
“It’s definitely something difficult to talk about, but for me, I can’t see in the next couple of years, him playing in the Premier League, I just can’t see it.”
'Greenwood won't play in the Premier League again'
Gabriel Agbonlahor, speaking to talkSPORT, can’t see Mason Greenwood playing for Manchester United in the Premier League again.
“I don’t think he will play in the Premier League again,” he said.
“I think his reputation is damaged at Manchester United and England, I do think he will play on again in a different country, a different league.
“And that’s down to them clubs, their managers and their owners if they decide to sign Mason Greenwood.
“But I do feel living in England, being at football games, seeing what fans are like at games, I can’t see him going out there and playing for Manchester United again.”
Manchester United know they require a new forward if they’re to end their wait for a first Premier League title since 2013.
And CaughtOffside say they’ve failed with a swap deal for Benfica hotshot Goncalo Ramos that would have seen Alex Telles head in the opposite direction.
The Portugal international dazzled in his homeland last term, scoring 27 goals from 47 appearances across all competitions.
And he also impressed for his country, too, scoring a hat-trick against Switzerland at the Qatar World Cup.

Speaking to Betfred, Louis Saha has tipped Andre Onana to be a success at Manchester United.
“I think so.,” he said. He’s a top goalkeeper that’s eager to improve and he’s 27 years old, so he’s got plenty of experience but isn’t old at all for a goalkeeper.
“The manager is looking to play out from the back and see how he can disrupt the opposition. I believe Onana will be very important for Manchester United.
“Of course, all goalkeepers make mistakes that lead to goals but in Andre’s case, the team is going to score more goals because of him.
“It takes time for players to adjust to a new league, but I’m certain it’s going to be a perfect fit as he was able to play in a very strictly structured Inter Milan team and was still able to revolutionise the squad with his forward thinking, so I have no doubt that he’s going to do the same at Manchester United.”
Sheikh Jassim made his fifth and final bid for United over a month ago and is yet to hear back from the Glazers.
He remains in a fight with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, though it’s the Qatari billionaire who appears to be in pole position to strike a deal.
And BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone, speaking to the Stretford Paddock, has claimed Sheikh Jassim is likely to look elsewhere if he misses out on Manchester United.
He said: “If that is rejected then Qatar’s interest in the Premier League, I assume, will move somewhere else.
“That could be a Tottenham. It's been spoken about before they've got the location, got the stadium, got the training ground.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Harry Maguire’s situation.
He said: “I’m aware of reports on Harry Maguire’s price tag proving an issue, but I think it’s a normal moment on the market where almost no one is signing centre backs, apart from Tottenham working on some players in that position.
“So it’s understandable if United are struggling to find buyers, because the domino has not started yet.
“Maguire remains available on the market for sure. But he’s also prepared to fight for his place in case nothing will happen.
Sky Sports’ Darmesh Sheth has confirmed Rasmus Hojlund is now Manchester United’s top striker target.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: "It certainly looks that way that the No 1 target now is Rasmus Hojlund, the Denmark international from Atalanta.
“He had a breakthrough season at Atalanta last season.
"Ten goals, quite raw, only 20 years old, so there have been question marks whether he can come straight in and be the No 1 striker for Manchester United.
“But rather like [Andre] Onana, no deal yet because there's a gap in valuation."
Mason Greenwood had charges dropped against him in February, with the club then confirming they would conduct their own investigation into the youngster.
Fast-forward to now and talk of a potential departure for the 21-year-old is gathering momentum, albeit on a short-term basis.
But the Daily Mail say those at United want to stress that any talk of a loan exit for Greenwood is highly speculative at this stage.
The club haven’t released any updates on the youngster in five months now.
However, Erik ten Hag did praise the forward’s ability to score goals when quizzed about Greenwood a few weeks ago.
However, if the France international is to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, then Real Madrid appear to be in pole position to secure his signature.
That would mean Sheikh Jassim having to head back to the drawing board if, as expected, he manages to buy United.
So Express Sport have now taken a look at four alternatives the club should consider instead, with Harry Kane among them.
Good morning and welcome to Express Sport's Manchester United takeover LIVE blog.
Things have gone a bit quiet on that front, with the Glazers yet to indicate their preference despite announcing they were open to a sale back in November.
But there's an update on Mason Greenwood this morning, with the 21-year-old still facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Stay tuned as Express Sport brings you all the latest throughout the day.
