Moises Caicedo has already given Manchester United optimism that they can beat Chelsea in the race for his signature this summer. United have reignited their interest in the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder as an alternative to Mason Mount, according to reports.
The Red Devils have seen three bids for Mount rejected by Chelsea, demanding £65million for the wantaway England international.
A third offer worth £55m was the latest to be turned away on Friday, prompting Erik ten Hag to move onto other targets as he vies to upgrade his midfield.
At the top of his list is Caicedo, the subject of interest from Old Trafford as a teenager at Independiente del Valle in 2020.
United scouts discovered the Ecuadorian and recommended an approach, leading to talks over a five-year contract in January of that year.
However, the Glazers refused to sanction a £4.3m deal as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched Brighton swoop in later in the winter window.

Despite losing out to the Seagulls, there was lasting hope that Caicedo would one day don the famous red shirt.
In a press conference at Independiente, Caicedo confirmed his dream of representing United.
He named former Red Devils captain Antonio Valencia as an inspiration to reach a similar level later in his career.
"My dream is to play for Manchester United. Antonio Valencia is an example to follow," Caicedo told reporters.
"With his strength and dedication, he was able to get to that level. That motivates me to keep working hard and do the right things."
