Ten Hag gives update on Rashford ahead of Newcastle v Man Utd
At the current moment in time, Marcus Rashford’s long-term future at Manchester United is up in the air. The England international has been a vital asset for Erik ten Hag so far this season, bagging 27 goals across all competitions to establish himself as one of the best attackers in world football. However, while the club are confident he’ll stay for the long term, the situation remains intriguing.
Rashford is United through a through. He grew up watching the club claim trophies galore under Sir Alex Ferguson, before then rising through the academy to become the latest graduate from Carrington.
But the England international’s long-term future is shrouded in uncertainty, with his current contract due to expire in just over a year’s time.
Rashford is widely expected to stay at United. He’s happy, the team are performing and there’s a sense the club’s golden boy has now evolved into a man.
He has, however, previously admitted there are two things that could force him into leaving Old Trafford and turning his back on the club.
Rashford revealed in 2021 that while he’d love to retire with the Red Devils, the club potentially seeking replacements and playing in a style that doesn't suit him anymore could force him into leaving.

"I think of course I’d like to but I think in football nowadays, things happen unexpectedly,” he said.
"You can never be 100 per cent sure – one, you’re going to be replaced and the club might want to sign somebody else, or maybe the style doesn’t suit you anymore.
"Maybe the style of football has changed so there are many things that can change throughout the duration of 10-15 years.
"For me, I hope to be able to play at this club for as long as I possibly can and retire where I started."

"I think Rashford, along with Bruno Fernandes, was playing the most games of the whole squad.
"I think Manchester United is playing the most games all across Europe and our internationals are not mostly on the bench, mostly they are playing.
"So, our players play the most games and this is crazy season, so they also need times that they can have a breather and can collect energy.
"For me, it's positive that he took that time to turn off from football. I have seen him back this week and he showed a lot of energy and a lot of motivation.

"Training as a whole team was a really good session with a lot of spirit, but especially also with Marcus so I think therefore it was good."
On Rashford potentially facing Newcastle on Sunday, he added: "I've good hope.
“He had to do some treatment and individual training, but on Friday he joined in with the group.
“We have one more day to go and there's good hope he's available. I think so."
