Head coach Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham by mutual consent
Vincent Kompany is open to leaving Burnley for Tottenham should the opportunity arise, according to reports. The Manchester City icon is on a six-man list of potential bosses as Daniel Levy hunts a replacement for Antonio Conte. Yet while the 36-year-old has long been expected to see out the season at Turf Moor, things may now be about to change.
Kompany only took the Burnley job back in the summer, choosing to chance his arm in the Championship having previously managed Anderlecht in Belgium.
And with the Clarets soaring ever since, The Sun say the former Manchester City skipper is now a ‘leading contender’ to take over at Tottenham.
Kompany is said to be interested in taking over from Conte, who lost his job earlier in the international break having criticised his players and the board following a 3-3 draw against Southampton.
Tottenham have been impressed by the 36-year-old and the work he’s done during his spell in Lancashire so far.
Yet he’s not the only name on Levy’s radar as he looks to bring in a boss capable of steering Spurs to some silverware.

Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino feature on Tottenham’s shortlist, with the pair available following departures from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
Nagelsmann is regarded as one of Europe’s best young managers, having managed at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig before Bayern.
But the temptation of bringing Pochettino back for a second stint in north London also seems to possess some appeal.
Luis Enrique is another manager under consideration, with the ex-Barcelona and Roma boss another free agent.
Enrique lost his job as Spain boss at the tail end of last year, shortly after the country’s failure to get anywhere near to winning the World Cup in Qatar.
And Marco Silva and Thomas Frank are ‘in the running’ too, having worked wonders during their respective spells at Fulham and Brentford.
Kompany is hoping to guide Burnley back into the Premier League, with the Clarets currently 16 points clear of third spot.
Yet a departure may appeal because the City icon knows he’ll be financially restricted when it comes to keeping his side in the top flight.
Speaking recently, former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino suggested Kompany would be the best fit for Tottenham.
“In the past Tottenham have just made an obvious choice, picking managers with the best CVs, but it’s time for them to be brave, especially as Harry Kane may well depart, which would create a completely new dynamic at the club,” he said.
