Marc Guehi reportedly needed an injection in his injured shoulder before heading out for the second half of England's dramatic last-16 clash with Slovakia. The Crystal Palace centre-back was again one of his country's star performers, despite twisting his shoulder early on in a collision with Slovakia forward David Strelec.

Guehi was down for a lengthy period, and was in obvious pain as he received treatment.

To compound matters, the incident earned him his second yellow card of the tournament, meaning he is ruled out of England's quarter-final with Switzerland on Saturday.

His absence represents a hammer blow for Gareth Southgate's side, with the 23-year-old having been was one of the bright spots in an otherwise unvoncincing campaign for the Three Lions. And not just defensively, with his flick on teeing up Jude Bellingham for his spectacular injury time equaliser in Gelsenkirchen.

Guehi's determination to put his body on the line is likely to earn him more plaudits as he continued with a shoulder injury in the second half - according to the Daily Mail. But it will also leave Gareth Southgate anxious over his participation in the tournament should England prevail against the Swiss.

Guehi would have been a major doubt for this weekend had he been fit, but now faces a race against time to be ready for a potential semi-final on Wednesday, July 10. The final takes place just four days later.

The report states there is hope that Guehi is expected to recover in time if England do reach the final four. In the meantime, Joe Gomez, Ezri Konsa, and Lewis Dunk will be in contention to replace him alongside John Stones in the heart of England's defence.

Prior to the Slovakia win, the star vigorously defended his manager in the press, arguing the squad were united behind him. “He has been fantastic for England. If you look at his record, it speaks for itself,” Guehi said.

”Everyone is behind the manager and we have a really close tight-knit group just focused on the next game. Everyone appreciates him, especially me. He gave me my debut for England and he’s showed so much confidence in me."

Whenever England and Guehi do return from Germany, the defender is likely to be the subject of transfer speculation. His form at the tournament has seen him linked to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

He currently has two years left on his contract at Crystal Palace, having joined for £18million from Chelsea in 2021. But he's now reportedly valued at more than £60m by the London club.
