Alan Shearer ribs Gary Lineker with Gianni Infantino joke after mocking FIFA chief on TV
Alan Shearer has turned Gary Lineker's Gianni Infantino jibe against him after aiming mockery of the FIFA chief at his BBC colleague.
Argentina team parade in Qatar after World Cup win
Alan Shearer has aimed a social media jibe at his BBC colleague Gary Lineker by continuing to mock Gianni Infantino for his choice of footwear during Sunday's World Cup closing ceremony. The controversial FIFA president was the butt of jokes in the BBC studio as the 2022 World Cup came to a close in Qatar.
Infantino stood on the pitch stage to help hand out the tournament's individual awards and present Argentina captain Lionel Messi with the World Cup trophy after their thrilling final triumph over France. But Lineker and Shearer couldn't help but comment on the bright, white trainers he sported with his suit.
While covering the ceremony on BBC, Lineker said: "Here come the dignitaries. Gianni Infantino there leading them out for the ceremony where they will give out the Golden Ball, the Golden Glove, the young player award so we have got a little time... interesting choice of trainers there from Gianni Infantino." Shearer then jibed: "How old is he?"
The joke rolled on yesterday after Lineker posted a video of his reunion with his dog on social media after jetting back to the UK from the Middle East. He was captured wearing similar white shoes paired with dark trousers and a dark blazer as he expressed his delight to embrace his pooch after a month overseas.

"Did you borrow those trainers from Infantino!! [Shocked emoji]," Shearer captioned his retweet of the Match of the Day host's post. Lineker saw the funny side of the Newcastle United legend's reaction, responding with three crying laughter emojis.
It's a running joke that will likely continue behind the scenes and potentially on-air as the duo resume their partnership on MOTD when the Premier League returns next week.

Lineker and Shearer weren't the only ones who accused Infantino of not dressing for the occasion. The FIFA chief was also targeted by jokes en masse from viewers online.
One said: "Gianni Infantino always looks like a lad in a suit whose 'good shoes' are killing him, so he wears his runners for watching the footie and getting his steps in."
A second wrote: "FIFA, you need to get rid of Infantino purely for wearing white trainers with a suit."
Another tweeted: "White trainers with a massive logo on the tongue. Mmmm."
And a fourth, more briefly, commented: "Infantino's shoes are so tragic."
