Ronaldo returns to Man Utd training after being dropped
Manchester United hero Paul Scholes thinks Sir Alex Ferguson WOULDN’T have been angry with Cristiano Ronaldo after his strop against Tottenham last week. The Portugal international refused to come on during the showdown at Old Trafford, instead storming down the tunnel with mere minutes left on the clock. And that incident came just days after the 37-year-old had sulked following being substituted against Newcastle in a goalless draw.
Ronaldo made the headlines for all the wrong reasons last week, with the United star refusing to come on against Tottenham.
He was then dropped for the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday, though has been reinstated to the team for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Sheriff.
And Scholes, speaking on BT Sport, believes Ferguson wouldn’t have been too angry with Ronaldo for his antics if he’d still been in charge - insisting the Scot wouldn’t have created the situation for himself in the first place.
“The manager has to show a bit of experience when you look at the bench, and you ask him to go on with two minutes to go,” he said.
“I lot of people have said Sir Alex have said he would have gone crazy, but I don’t think he would have ever done that.
“With two minutes to go in a game that is comfortable, you bring on a young kid to make their debut and to run around for a little bit.

“It is disrespectful to Cristiano, but it is the manager’s job.”
He then added: “At the time, it is difficult to explain your emotions.
“Unfortunately this week it has been mentioned this week about myself and it is a low point in my career.
“I really regret it and it was so wrong to do, but I do sympathise with Cristiano.
“We know he did the wrong thing, but in my situation we played against Liverpool on the Sunday and had a league cup game against Arsenal on the Monday, and I was left out of the Liverpool game.
“I was upset and not happy about it and usually when I got left out I wasn’t one to complain, but this incident in particular it got to me.
“The manager didn’t bring me on and your head goes as the game goes on, and that is the same thing that happened with Cristiano.
“He would have been thinking he could have scored three or four goals against Tottenham, and the more the game goes on, the red mist comes and you are not thinking properly.
“To ask him to come on with two or three minutes left, he must be thinking, are you taking the mickey out of me?
“It’s been dealt with and I think the manager has dealt well with the amount of questions about the situation.
“The right thing has happened, he has trained with them this week, it is out of the way, it’s done. Carry on with the game.”
