Manchester United have refused to comment on talk former Liverpool chief Michael Edwards could be appointed at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are understood to be happy with John Murtough working in his current football director role. And they’re not directly addressing speculation at this time, especially with Edwin van der Sar only linked a few days ago…
Manchester United have been linked with Edwards, with reports on Tuesday claiming the former Liverpool chief could be about to arrive at Old Trafford.
However, Express Sport understands the Red Devils won’t be directly addressing speculation at the current moment in time.
A source has disclosed, however, that they’re happy with the work Murtough is currently doing in his role as football director.
United had a productive transfer window, bringing in six fresh faces in the forms of Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Antony and Martin Dubravka.
The club have previously missed out on top targets when the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes all ruled the roost.

But, Frenkie de Jong aside, United got all of their main objectives for the transfer window.
United are aware of speculation over the likes of Van der Sar and Paul Mitchell, who have previously been linked with positions at the club.
Yet it appears they’re happy to place their faith in Murtough for the time being, while they’ve stopped short of actually ruling out Edwards coming in.
Certainly, the mood at Old Trafford is a good one at present.
United endured a shaky start to the season, losing their first two Premier League matches against the likes of Brighton and Brentford.
However, they’ve tasted defeat just once in the league in the time since - against rivals Manchester City - while emerging unscathed from matches against rivals such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Erik ten Hag has unified the dressing room, while he’s also won respect for the way he’s handled the Cristiano Ronaldo situation.
Ronaldo recently made the headlines when he stormed out of the stadium having refused to come on in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham.
Ten Hag then decided to punish him by demoting the 37-year-old to train with the Under-21s, rather than the senior team.
But players think their manager made the right call, while they also respect the Dutchman’s decision to extend an olive branch to Ronaldo.

The Dutchman explained his decision by saying: “I am here to manage (the situation).
“I am responsible for the top culture here. I have to set the standards and values and control them. We are a team and we have standards and values.
“Rayo Vallecano wasn’t acceptable, but he wasn’t the only one.
“The second time has consequences. We will miss him tomorrow, and it is a miss for the squad, but it is important for the attitude and mentality for the group.”
