Ralf Rangnick previews Man Utd's clash with Southampton
A potential surprise Manchester United transfer target has emerged ahead of what's expected to be a busy summer at Old Trafford. United's attack could have a new look about it next season, and Ralf Rangnick is eyeing a striker who has rarely been linked with the club previously.
Edinson Cavani's contract expires in June and he is widely expected to leave the Red Devils as a free agent.
On Friday, Rangnick confirmed plans to sign a new striker this summer to replace the Uruguayan veteran.
He told the media: "This is obvious. Edinson's [Cavani] contract is running out in the summer and the club needs the best possible centre forward. This is an obvious one. I think everyone is aware of that."
And the German coach could target a rogue name who has been producing monstrous numbers in his homeland this season.
According to BBC Sport, Rangnick is a keen admirer of Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick.
This season, the 26-year-old has scored 18 goals in as many Bundesliga games, with only Robert Lewandowski netting more than him across Europe's top five leagues.
Schick is producing similar numbers to widely hailed sensations in Erling Haaland and Dusan Vlahovic but has gone under the radar in different clubs' striker searches.
Cristiano Ronaldo is United's top goalscorer in the Premier League with eight goals, a minuscule figure compared to the Czech frontman's haul.

On top of Cavani, Ronaldo's future at the club could be plunged into doubt if Rangnick's side fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Jesse Lingard is set to join Cavani out the exit door on a free transfer, whilst Anthony Martial's future is also unclear amid his loan spell at Sevilla.
United will likely be without Mason Greenwood, too, following his suspension amid a police investigation.
Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez and Real Sociedad's Alexander Isak have also been suggested as potential options.
And if United appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager, it's thought he would like to reunite with Tottenham ace Harry Kane.
