Eddie Howe has admitted he has become frustrated at the attempts to bring in recruitments in the January transfer window, with just ten days before the deadline. Only Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have joined the Magpies this window, with both being rather uninspiring in the games they have played so far.
The club have been linked with many more players, with reports that a deal for Diego Carlos is close.
Reinforcements at the back are needed with Newcastle boasting the second-worst defensive record in the Premier League.
But so far, the signings they have made have given no indication that a relegation escape might occur.
And Howe has given the press an indication into how hard the transfer market can be even as one of the world's richest teams.

"It's been a slightly frustrating week for us in the transfer market," Howe said.
"We know we're against a deadline and everyone connected to the club is desperately trying to improve the squad.
"We're working very hard behind the scenes, but it's been a fruitless search this week."
Alassane Plea was linked earlier on Wednesday, although Newcastle must double their reported £8.5million bid to secure his services, according to BILD.
