Tottenham can keep manager Antonio Conte happy by signing Juventus striker Pablo Dybala, who almost signed for the north London club under Mauricio Pochettino. Conte joined Spurs in November, but some players reportedly fear the Italian will quit if he isn’t backed in the transfer window.
Tottenham had apparently reached an agreement with the Old Lady to sign Dybala for around £60million in August 2019 as Poch oversaw his final transfer window as Spurs boss.
But Tottenham pulled out of the deal on deadline day after issues with the player’s image rights.
Clubs commonly obtain image rights for the players they sign. But in recent times, some players have decided to sell off their image rights to media companies.
Dybala, who is now valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, had sold his image rights to Malta-based Star Image Company, which was owned by his former agent Pierpaolo Triulzi.
Spurs clearly felt it would be a problem to sign a player and not be able to use his image to promote merchandise and shirts. So the transfer fell through.

Tottenham have reportedly retained an interest in the forward – and they could now land him for free this summer.
According to ESPN, Dybala has been in contract talks with Juventus since 2020 and had agreed a new deal.
But the Italian giants reportedly changed the terms of the deal, which has prompted the 28-year-old to decide to turn his back on the club and walk away for nothing.
Manchester United and Barcelona have been linked with the player in the past – so Spurs could face a transfer battle if they do attempt to sign him.
