Manchester United sack Ole Gunnar after Watford defeat
Manchester United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday less than 24 hours after their 4-1 battering at the hands of Watford. And reports say Steve Bruce is keen on taking over at Old Trafford, believing he has what it takes to stabilise the dressing room. It’s been a poor campaign for the Red Devils, who have lost seven of their last 13 matches across all competitions.
Prior to United’s match with Watford, the Red Devils hierarchy had no plans to sack Solskjaer.
However, the chastening defeat at Vicarage Road ultimately prompted a U-turn with the club deciding to pull the trigger on the 48-year-old’s reign.
For now, Michael Carrick will be in the dugout for their upcoming matches against Villarreal and Chelsea, in the Champions League and Premier League respectively.
But the Red Devils have revealed they’re looking to hire an interim manager to replace Solskjaer and see out the season.
Now, The Athletic have claimed club legend Bruce is interested in the role.
The 60-year-old is currently available after leaving Newcastle last month following their lucrative takeover.

Man Utd next manager: Steve Bruce was successful as a player at Old Trafford (Image: GETTY)
“I’ll spend some time with my family,” said the 48-year-old, who lasted longer than predecessors Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes.
“That’s been probably the most difficult part, through the pandemic, with Norway being open and here being closed.
“My family moved back to Norway and the young one, he loves it back there, so we’ve lived apart.
“So, I’ll spend some time with them. Then, I’ll watch the team of course and hopefully, the next manager comes in and I want to support him.
“I want him to be successful, hopefully I’ve laid the foundations for that to happen because I know I’m good at what I’m doing.

“There are some very, very good players there, some good people.
“I’m sure we’ll see them puff their chest out and they’ll go on a run.”
