Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has publicly criticised Gary Neville’s ideal Manchester United starting XI. Neville, who has won 12 Premier League titles with the Red Devils, was asked to name his perfect United line-up with everyone fit, and there were a number of quirks included which have got people talking.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has such a talented squad at his disposal that Neville’s selection was bound to cause controversy no matter what.
Even with that considered, however, there were still some eyebrow-raising choices.
For one, both Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho missed out, made even more surprising by the fact that Neville championed United’s pursuit of Sancho over the past two summer windows.
Surprisingly, there was also room for Edinson Cavani despite the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Carragher was quick to pounce on his fellow Sky Sports pundit on social media, pointing out three flaws in his side.
Firstly, Neville chose to play Pogba in defensive midfield rather than on the left-wing, a position which has recently seen him play some scintillating football.
Although chopping and changing between midfield and out wide, Pogba has already notched seven assists so far this season, making a significant dent in the all-time Premier League record of 20 in a single campaign.
Secondly, there was no room for Sancho who arrived from Borussia Dortmund in a blockbuster £73million move this summer.
There was plenty of hype around the signing, with United thought to be finally getting an assist-first winger who would streamline their attack.
However, his early performances have been so underwhelming that Solskjaer concurs with Neville, and Sancho has been bench-bound in recent games.
Finally, Neville controversially earmarked Ronaldo for a wide left position, despite scoring four in four games since making his return to the club as a striker.
The 36-year-old has gradually morphed himself from a tricky winger to a ruthless frontman over the years, although playing him out wide would make room for Cavani.

Since Ronaldo’s arrival, the Uruguayan has cut something of a forgotten figure at Old Trafford, despite drawing compliments for his superb attacking instincts last season.
Still, there are noticeable differences between Neville’s ideal line-up and those regularly chosen by Solskjaer, his former team-mate, who is currently at the helm.
Picking an XI in public was always going to be contentious, and a number of bewildered social media users jokingly brought up his unsuccessful managerial stint at Valencia to rationalise some of his unorthodox choices.
