Manchester United confirm Cristiano Ronaldo return
Manchester United's sudden pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo may have been fuelled by uncertainty over Edinson Cavani's availability for the season ahead. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still want a new long-term striker next summer but has four primary options this term, although question marks hover over two of them.

According to The Athletic, United hold doubts over Cavani's commitment due to his insistence to represent Uruguay despite the Premier League's recent stance.
Earlier in the week, the Premier League announced in a statement that players wouldn't be able to travel to red-list countries next month.
But Cavani quickly reacted to the decision on Instagram and intends to feature for Uruguay in next month's World Cup Qualifiers.
His decision will see him miss more games this season due to the lengthy quarantine period that will come with it.

Mason Greenwood has picked off where he left off last season, and many thought he'd have an opportunity for more minutes as a striker in the coming months.
With Ronaldo likely to dominate the striker position, the 19-year-old could be in for another campaign mainly featuring on the right.
Greenwood has scored in each of United's opening two league games this term and might be left frustrated if he's pushed out wide again.
The opportunity to learn from Cavani has reaped the rewards, though, and Ronaldo should have a similar effect on his exciting development.
