Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was furious at Timo Werner’s penalty miss against Luton on Sunday, despite the Blues winning the FA Cup tie 3-1, reports suggest. Abramovich sacked Frank Lampard on Monday after deciding the club icon had no path to get Chelsea out of their current slump in form.
Chelsea are set to announce Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach after parting ways with Lampard.
The club’s all-time top goalscorer was sacked on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after the Blues coasted past Luton Town in the FA Cup.
Abramovich and the rest of the Chelsea board reportedly felt Lampard didn’t have a plan to get Chelsea out of their poor spell of form and close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City.
The Blues had gone through a terrible run before Lampard was dismissed, and it was claimed that he didn’t have the tactical knowledge to get the best out of his players.

Chelsea are currently in ninth place in the Premier League table, just a point ahead of tenth-placed Southampton, who have a game in hand.
Due to their league position and apparent lack of direction, Abramovich decided to pull the trigger on Lampard’s time at Stamford Bridge just 18 months into his three-year contract.
The Sun claims Lampard was called into a meeting with Abramovich and Bruce Buck on Monday morning and given his marching orders.
Abramovich was apparently upset with Werner’s penalty miss late in the game, and viewed it as an example of the players losing confidence under Lampard’s leadership.
