Manchester United must beat Liverpool at Anfield next month in order to have a chance of winning the Premier League title this season, claims former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino. United are currently fourth in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool following their 2-2 Boxing Day draw at Leicester. Liverpool can extend the gap to the rest when they play struggling West Brom at Anfield later today (4.30pm).

“I don’t think they’ve got enough to get to Liverpool, I think Liverpool will get a gap on them," Cascarino said on talkSPORT.
“It’s still too early, because this period has four or five games that can kill your title challenge. United have got three really big games coming in the next three weeks.
“But if United go to Anfield in January and win, then you know there’s a title challenge on.
“Liverpool aren’t going to drop that many points this year, so United are going to have to get a couple of big wins to be up there.”

“There have been times they’ve dropped way below the standard. They’ve got a lot of good footballers at that club, they’ve spent a hell of a lot of money, they’ve had bright youngsters come through and they’ve got two top goalkeepers challenging for that No 1 spot.
“It feels like there are fights for shirts in a lot of positions. Players are not guaranteed a place in that team.
“There’s more competition and players are playing to a better standard. They’re a dangerous team."
