Liverpool: Klopp gives thoughts on 'open' title race
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij in January. Jurgen Klopp's side are in the midst of a defensive injury crisis, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez long-term absentees.
Joel Matip was the only recognised centre-back who started in their most recent Premier League game, a 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage.
However, Matip was forced off at half-time with a back problem and Klopp opted to partner makeshift defender Fabinho with midfielder Jordan Henderson for the remainder of the game.
Speaking after the game, Klopp offered an update on Matip's fitness in his press conference, admitting the injury is not too serious.
"Joel Matip has a spasm in his back," he said. "We will see. In the moment, nothing else.

"He got already treatment, will get treatment and we will see. I think there’s a chance for Wednesday. [It’s not that bad] in the moment, no."
Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams have also featured at times this season but Liverpool could look to bring in a more experienced defender in January.
According toFCInterNews, Liverpool and rivals Manchester United made contact with agent Mino Raiola to enquire about the possibility of signing De Vrij.
The 28-year-old was named the best defender in the Serie A last season and is an international team-mate of Van Dijk with the Netherlands.
