Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended Manchester United’s goalscoring record this season after his side drew another blank at Old Trafford. The 0-0 draw against rivals Manchester Citywas the third time they failed to score at home this season.
In a drab game, United only managed to muster two shots on target as neither side posed much of an attacking threat.
The scoreline means that in six home matches in the Premier League so far, United have only found the back of the net three times.
Even more concerning is the fact that Donny van de Beek’s consolation in the opening day defeat to Crystal Palace is the goal United have scored from open play on their home ground.
The other two goals, against Tottenham and West Brom, have come from the penalty spot, courtesy of Bruno Fernandes.

However, in total, United have scored 19 times in eleven Premier League outings compared to 13 after the same number of games last season, something Solskjaer has been quick to point out.
"If you compare our goal tally from last season to now, we are ahead," Solskjaer said after the City game.
"With the amount of games that we have played and the amount of goals we have scored, whether that is home or away it doesn't really matter.
"I think teams - and bigger teams - set the tactics and stall out to defend against us and be happy with a draw. That is, of course, a challenge for us but I think we have proven in many games that we do create chances.

"I think we have scored and created a lot of chances at certain moments and it’s more varied in the way we score. Today we looked more dangerous on set-plays, even."
Despite their Champions League exit following a 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig, United have had fewer problems finding the target in Europe this season.
United scored in all the group matches at Old Trafford, including emphatic 5-0 and 4-1 wins over Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir respectively.
Even in the 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Marcus Rashford managed to get on the scoresheet.
