Man United: Angel Gomes scores incredible goal for U23's
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted Angel Gomes is poised to leave Old Trafford behind. The youngster’s contract expires on Thursday and no renewal has been agreed. However, Express Sport understands the Red Devils are already on the verge of signing a replacement in the form of Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
Manchester United have seen Gomes flourished at youth level over the years, with the 19-year-old once considered the standout academy talent on the club’s books.
However, his time at Old Trafford is now up. With Chelsea and Barcelona circling the teenager has decided to turn down a renewal and will now embark on a new challenge elsewhere.
Solskjaer, speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Brighton, confirmed as much. He said: “To be honest, I have not heard from them last night or this morning.
“So it seems like they've not managed to agree, so the answer is probably short and 'yes' at the moment.
“I've got no news, so it doesn't look like it [that he will sign a new deal].”

Solskjaer would have liked Gomes to stay put and believed that, having seen the likes of Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams shine, he could have been next.
But now, all eyes are on the future.
And Express Sport understands United are edging closer to the signing of Grealish and that a transfer deal should go through without any hitches.
The 24-year-old has already found a house to buy in the North-West - telling close pals he’s expected to move into it when the transfer window reopens.
United have been tracking the Villa star for some time, now, and want him and Jadon Sancho to spearhead an exciting new era at the Theatre of Dreams.
In Solskjaer’s eyes, he’s the ideal midfield partner for Bruno Fernandes.
While Fernandes has sparkled alongside Paul Pogba at Old Trafford this season there’s still questions marks over the France international and whether he’ll still be there in 12 months time.
But, regardless, they want Grealish.
He’s easily an upgrade on Gomes, having scored seven goals and registered six assists from 30 appearances in the Premier League this term.
Villa want £80million for their star asset, regardless of whether they stay in the Premier League or not.
But with United now having an extra space in their squad they’re primed to pursue the 24-year-old with vigour the moment the season concludes.
While Grealish has had some controversial incidents over the years in the eyes of Solskjaer he’s a player worth taking a gamble on.
The Villa star’s breach of lockdown rules at the end of March raised eyebrows at Old Trafford but hasn’t been enough for United to drop their interest.
And that will be a comfort to fans as they digest the news of Gomes’ departure.
