Liverpool 'waited too long' over Werner transfer says expert
Chelsea-bound Timo Werner would have been "perfect" for Manchester United, according to former Red Devils midfielder Owen Hargreaves. United were interested in Werner and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly met the German earlier this year. However, Chelsea are set to sign the RB Leipzig striker after agreeing a deal last week.
Werner has scored 25 Bundesliga goals so far this season and Hargreaves reckons he is the type of signing that United need.
The pundit admits it is a great coup for Chelsea to capture the 24-year-old and can see the Blues challenging for the Premier League title inside the next couple of years.
"Well I think he's perfect, I think he could have been perfect for Man United as well but I think it's brilliant for Frank Lampard and Chelsea," Hargreaves said on BT Sport.
"A proven goalscorer but the curious thing for me is how he fits in with Tammy Abraham, because I love Tammy's game and I think he's been tremendous.

"So maybe Timo Werner can play off the left side at times but they have multiple players there for those positions, with [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [Christian] Pulisic.
"But it's a terrific signing for Chelsea, I think they needed to make a statement and they've done that.
"To go with [Hakim] Ziyech and all these terrific young players, I think Chelsea are building something, not to compete next season for the Premier League but definitely in two or three years time to compete to win the Premier League.
"Terrific signing, I think Chelsea fans are going to love him."

Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League table ahead of the restart later this month.
And legendary England striker Alan Shearer says it is imperative Lampard's side qualify for the Champions League with Werner and Ziyech arriving.
"Signing Timo Werner is a huge statement from Chelsea — but it would be a kick in the teeth not to make the top four now," Shearer wrote in his column for The Sun.
"Along with Hakim Ziyech, they have got two big-hitters through the door before the transfer window has opened.
