Liverpool 'waited too long' over Werner transfer says expert
Liverpool are now focussed on extending the contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, after pulling out of the running for Timo Werner. The German striker was the club's top transfer target heading into the summer window before the coronavirus disrupted plans.

Van Dijk earns around £180,000 but the new deal could make his Liverpool's best-paid player.
Alisson is on around half of that, but a new contract would see his salary significantly improved.
The club are also in talks with Gini Wijnaldum over extending his stay.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Klopp explained yesterday why the club decided against a deal for Werner.
"There are a lot of good players on this planet," Klopp said.
"Timo Werner is a great player, Kai Havertz is a great player.
"Right time, opportunity - everything has to come together. Six, seven weeks ago, we didn't know if we could play again this year. If we hadn't played the second half of the season, we would have thought, 'OK, when can you really play football again?' And now it starts right away.
"We act as if everything is already settled. It's not settled. We use this little loophole we've been left to play football again.
"Everything else we have to see the moment it happens. We can't pretend now that everything's going to be fine in the future."
