Liverpool are looking to complete the signing of Timo Werner in the coming weeks. Jurgen Klopp has identified the RB Leipzig hotshot as his top target ahead of the summer transfer window. The Premier League leaders are reluctant to spend because of the coronavirus crisis but could be set to make an exception for Werner.
Liverpool are interested in the Germany international to provide competition for their attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Werner, who has provided 30 goals and 12 assists in 38 appearances this term, is capable of playing in a host of positions across the front line.
He has repeatedly talked up a move to Liverpool and is understood to have spurned the advances of Bayern Munich to pursue a switch to the Premier League.
It was previously reported Anfield bosses had cooled their interest in Werner to keep an eye on their finances due to the economic impact of the coronavirus crisis.
But Nicolo Schira - an Italian sports journalist - claims Liverpool are set to complete their swoop for the forward.
"The first choice of Jurgen #Klopp always remains Timo #Werner," Schira wrote on Twitter.
"For him is ready a wages of €10M + bonuses. #Liverpool want to close the deal in the coming weeks.
"Meanwhile confirmed from Deutschland their talks on call after Easter."
Werner is available for €60million (£53.6m) due to a release clause in his Leipzig contract, which reduces in value every year.
The 24-year-old has hailed Klopp as "the best coach in the world who is German" while admitting he believes his "playing style might be a good fit" with Liverpool's.

Due to travel restrictions imposed by the UK Government, Klopp has been unable to meet Werner but Bundesliga football expert Raphael Honigstein claims a virtual meeting has taken place between the pair.
"They are a little hesitant to pull the trigger because they don't know the impact of football coming back," Honigstein added on BT Sport. "He is waiting for things to fall into shape.
"This kind of deal which would usually be confirmed in April or May might not get announced until September or October."
Werner underlined his talent by netting a hat-trick in Leipzig's 5-0 win against Klopp's former club Mainz on Sunday. He also hit a treble against the Bundesliga strugglers in last November's 8-0 thrashing.
After the latest defeat, Mainz tweeted: "Kloppo, can you take him already?".
