Harry Kane says he wouldn’t stay at Spurs ‘for the sake of it’
Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been backed to join Real Madrid but only if Erling Haaland does not end up at the Bernabeu. Spurs talisman Kane has long been linked with a move to Real as a potential long-term replacement for Karim Benzema. The England captain has scored a minimum 24 goals in each of his last five completed seasons and was on his way to smashing that tally this season before he suffered a serious hamstring injury in January.
Kane fuelled speculation over his future in March by claiming he would not stay at Tottenham "for the sake of it" if the club did not match his ambition in terms of challenging for silverware.
Former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop believes La Liga giants Real would be a good destination for Kane and that he would take him over 32-year-old Benzema.
"I can [see Kane at Real]," Hislop told ESPN.
"I'll be honest, I can see Harry Kane anywhere.
"I think he is that good a footballer, he fits into just about any system that he chooses.

"But I see this working if this does happen for both club and player."
However, Real are also linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Haaland.
Haaland, 19, has scored 13 goals in as many matches for Dortmund since his arrival from Red Bull Salzburg in January following a blistering start to the campaign for the Austrian outfit.
And Hislop admits he would rather have Haaland than Kane if he were in charge at Real.

"Right now I think I'm leaning [towards] Haaland," he added.
"Just maybe because of his age, there's more upside, which I know we're talking about Real Madrid and that's not top of their own considerations, they go for the brightest talents at the peaks of their powers.
"But left up to me, if I'm building a squad, I'm leaning Haaland."
