Fernandinho sends warning to Man City stars as problems laid bare and Liverpool race clear
Manchester City star Fernandinho has fired a stern warning to his team-mates over finishing in the Premier League's top four, after Pep Guardiola's side fell to a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham this weekend, leaving Liverpool 22 points clear at the top of the table.
Man City: Pep Guardiola reflects on loss against Tottenham
Manchester City defender Fernandinho has told his team-mates that the club “can’t go on like this”, after they dropped more points against Tottenham this weekend. Pep Guardiola’s side lost 2-0 against Tottenham on Sunday in north London, after Oleksandr Zinchenko was sent off in the second half.
The Citizens are now 22 points behind league leaders Liverpool, and look set to lose their crown as Premier League champions after two years with the trophy.
Fernandinho fired a message to his City team that they have to turn their form around.
They could even risk dropping out of the Premier League’s top four, he claimed.
City are currently 14 points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham, 10 ahead of Chelsea, but just two points ahead of Leicester City.

“Liverpool have practically won the league now, with how far ahead they are.
“We need to be careful because from now until the end of the season, we could lose more points and, subsequently, our [second] place in the table.
“We could even finish outside the Champions League places.
“I hope next week we get a positive reaction from our fans at home because it is more than needed.”

The manager has already admitted that his tenure at the Etihad Stadium would likely be considered a failure, unless he wins Europe’s most-coveted prize.
City were drawn against Real Madrid in the Round of 16 this season, and first head to the Santiago Bernabeu on February 26.
The return takes place three weeks later at the Etihad, on March 17.
