Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa identifies new target after Che Adams transfer frustration
Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa is trying to sign Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga during the January transfer window, after a move for Southampton star Che Adams appears to have broken down
Leeds: Bielsa says 'we need a striker as soon as possible'
Leeds United are interested in recruiting Middlesbrough star Britt Assombalonga to boost their chances of gaining promotion this season. Marcelo Bielsa has been looking to sign a new forward since they lost Eddie Nketiah earlier this month.
Leeds only have Patrick Bamford as a recognised striker in their squad.
They did have Nketiah on loan for the season, but Arsenal cut the deal short this month over a lack of playing time.
After a dip in form, Bielsa has been looking to add more firepower to his team to help them get over the line, and earn promotion to the Premier League.
Leeds are now turning their attention to Middlesbrough’s forward Assombalonga, according to the Mirror.

Assombalonga has scored six goals in the Championship this season from 20 league appearances.
Bamford, meanwhile, has scored 10 times during the campaign. But, the club’s second-highest goalscorer, Jack Harrison, has only managed five.
DR Congo international Assombalonga started his career at Watford in 2011, and was sent out on loan to Braintree Town the following year.
After a season-long loan to Southend United, Peterborough signed the striker for £1.7million.

The Southampton board were happy to accept the deal, before Hassenhuttl stepped in.
Leeds were set to sign Adams on loan for the remainder of the season, with a £10m option-to-buy clause.
The Whites have also been linked with a move for Watford striker Andre Gray, but it’s believed that they’ve been priced out of a deal.
Leeds are also interested in signing Manchester City youngster Ian Poveda, although they’ve also been offered the chance to sign Everton forward Oumar Niasse.
