Steven Gerrard recalls his trial at Manchester United
Steven Gerrard once donned Manchester United threads while he underwent a trial at the club during his youth, the Liverpool legend has revealed. Gerrard played 710 games for Liverpool before moving to LA Galaxy for the twilight of his career.
The midfielder grew up in a family split between Liverpool and Everton, with his father a die-hard Red.
Following the 1986 FA Cup final between Merseyside’s two big clubs, it was Liverpool who Gerrard decided to support.
He broke into the youth set-up at Anfield aged nine but did not secure his maiden first-team contract until nine years later.
In the interim, Gerrard was urged by his dad to flaunt his talent at several clubs around the country in the hope of making his boyhood club jealous and provoking them into a contract offer.
