Manchester United face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup tonight. And, had things gone differently, they’d have David Silva, Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones in their ranks. The trio were all of interest to the club but they missed out to their local rivals every time.
Manchester United go into tonight’s Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City as underdogs, despite beating Guardiola’s side 2-1 at the Etihad last month.
The Red Devils have fallen behind their noisy neighbours in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
United have won the EFL Cup, Europa League and FA Cup in the time since Ferguson walked off into the sunset.
But City have done better, winning three Premier League titles, four EFL Cups and the FA Cup in the time since.

Express Sport now looks at how the trio could have joined United earlier in their respective careers.
