Rangers boss Steven Gerrard reacts to win at Celtic
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is looking to bring in some fresh faces during the January transfer window and he is hoping to beat Celtic to securing the signing of Stoke City forward Tyrese Campbell.
Express Sport revealed last month that Celtic were keen on the 20-year-old but as he has now entered the last six months of his deal with the Potters, a host of clubs are looking at the forward.
Campbell has struggled to cement a place in Stoke’s first-team this season and the England under-20 striker has yet to commit his future to the club.
However, while Celtic are keen on Campbell, according to the Daily Record, Rangers have now also stepped up their interest in the player.
The young striker could join either club in the summer for a knockdown fee of just under £400,000 due to cross-border regulations.

Stoke are struggling this season and currently sit 21st in the Championship.
However, Campbell’s opportunities have been limited although he has managed four goals in 16 league games for Stoke this season, only five of which has been starts.
It is understandable that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wants to strengthen his attacking options as the club continues to fend off interest in Alfredo Morelos, who has 28 goals in 35 games, while the club’s 37-year-old back-up forward Jermain Defoe is in the twilight of his career.

And while Potters’ new boss Michael O’Neill appears to want to keep the young striker at the bet365 Stadium, with bigger clubs calling, Campbell could well leave to help his development.
However, while Gerrard wants to bring new players in, he also faces the challenge of needing to reduce the size of his squad in January.
“Steven and I have been clear and consistent, the squad is too big, we need to reduce it,” Wilson said.
“It’s not easy but that is our number one aim.

“The second job was the contracts of those guys we felt we wanted here beyond the summer.
“We’ve started that process with new deals for Allan McGregor and Steven Davis.”
Rangers currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership and are two points off league leaders Celtic, but they do have a game in hand over their rivals.
