Manchester United are ‘interested’ in Maddison says pundit
Manchester United chief Ed Woodward must make Leicester star James Maddison the club’s most-expensive signing of all time to bring him to Old Trafford during the January transfer window, according to reports. The England international has helped the Foxes up to second in the Premier League table this season.
Manchester United looked at signing Maddison during the summer transfer window amid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s doubts over current playmakers Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
Both Lingard and Mata have struggled for form at Old Trafford this season, managing no Premier League assists between them.
United believe they require more creativity, with the club’s current system better-suited to counter-attacking football.
And The Athletic say Maddison is the club’s primary attacking midfield target.
The Leicester star has flourished under Brendan Rodgers over at the King Power Stadium this season.
He took his top flight goal tally to six for the campaign against Newcastle earlier this week - and has also registered three assists so far.

And Romelu Lukaku is third on the list, with the Red Devils paying £75m for the Belgium international nearly three years ago.
Meanwhile, Rodgers has insisted Maddison will be staying at the King Power Stadium for now.
"Nobody will leave here that we don't want to go," he said.
"I think we've had a couple of enquiries in terms of loans and for some of our younger players.
“But the players that are always talked about and mentioned, there will be nobody going."

United flop Kleberson, meanwhile, recently expressed doubts over Maddison.
"I don’t think it would be great for Maddison to join United," the 2002 World Cup winner said.
"They [Leicester] have had a good start to the season but when you do a big jump from a smaller club to United, it is mentally tough for these players.
"They have to be able to learn to adapt to play at a big club.
"It will be interesting to see if they can, but I don’t know if he will be a good enough signing for United."
