Chamberlain’s first was a driven shot low into the bottom corner of the net from outside the area, but the second was the one which made all the headlines.
Roberto Firmino created space for himself on the edge of the area before laying a pass off for Chamberlain, who barely flicked the ball with the outside of his foot into the top corner.
Afterwards, Van Dijk told The Athletic how proud he was of his team-mate, who has been used as more of a utility player than a starter this season.
“We’re all so happy for Ox,” the Dutchman said. “He’s worked so hard to get back to this point and he deserves a night like this. He’s such a great guy, such an important guy for the group.

“He’s a quality player and he showed it, not only with his goals, but also with his all-round game.
“During a difficult period, he always managed to stay positive. We were all there for him. Pre-season was tough for him but he’s showing a lot of great things right now.
“He’s so sharp. His goals made the difference. The first one was so important and the second was a killer for them. It’s just great to see him back out there.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain was joined in the middle of the park by Naby Keita, another attacking midfielder.

But Van Dijk insisted he didn’t feel like he had any more work to do because Fabinho - who completed the midfield trio - did a brilliant job in front of the back line.
“I don’t think so,” he said when asked if the attacking midfield selection made his job difficult.
“We still had Fabinho in front of us, who cleans up everything. They left one or two strikers up front and we tried to get involved. That’s the way we play.
“We just have to do better at winning the second balls and in the transition with the counter-press.”
